Recorded 4/4/08 in Storrs, CT. This was a month after I discovered the music of Michael Hedges and was inspired to play guitar and sing again. Around the same time, the Foo Fighters' song "My Hero" came back into my consciousness; a lovely soulful tune that has always invoked a certain feeling of reverence for my loved ones and for inspiring figures, like Michael. Then I discovered a theoretical similarity between "My Hero" and Michael's "Aerial Boundaries" [they both use the same I to VI chord progression with the change on beat 4).....so, I put the two pieces together and created a synthesis of all of the musical and inspirational elements. Another timely coincidence, my dear friend, luthier/craftswoman Carla Kelly, came into the temporary possession of a gorgeous pre-war Martin guitar. (It turns out that Michael's main axe was a Martin!) She was gracious enough to lend me the guitar for some explorations and we recorded this early version of my arrangement of "My Hero" & "Aerial Boundaries" with audio engineering help of Ray Johnson. Go to my myspace page (www.myspace.com/seanfrenette) to hear a slightly newer version from the Fall of 2008. Or stay tuned for the newest arrangement for my new album, coming soon!
Wow man, I didn't know this was a Foo Fighters song until I checked out this video. I absolutely love your album version with all of the vocal harmony!! Like the guy said before me, this is hardcore independence right here, waaaaaay underrated, unknown, that aside, thanks for uploading nonetheless! Very clever arrangement indeed.
