GM's Windows of Opportunity project asked students to design interactive applications that rear seat passengers would interact with through their side windows. In-car DVD players and handheld game consoles have proven a godsend to parents looking to avoid the regular cries of "are we there yet?" from kids in the back seat. Similar to Toyota's "Window to the World" concept, GM's "Windows of Opportunity" (WOO) project looks to advance back seat entertainment even further. The project saw the automaker giving researchers and students from the FUTURE LAB at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Israel free reign to design applications that rear seat passengers would interact with through their side windows, which act as interactive displays.

  • Or we could use the money for this project on something useful...

  • This is just another electronic mind killing toy for grown ups (and kids). This is not development, it's revelopment ffs. People don't need more apps, faps, dips and chips to block their mental processes with. They need fewer and better stuff.

  • @HeadshotZealot Lol you made my day!

  • @kaxitaksi I know as a toy its crap and a complete waste of time, but the technology itself is interesting! Don't think of it within the context of the car window bullshit. Instead think how this sort of technology could be applied as say... an interactive interface for a supercomputer database system etc. Obviously while profit is the goal new technologies are going to be applied in a bullshit way.

  • @HeadshotZealot Its interesting technology but I agree it is an incredibly wasteful use of it. Still, what can you expect when profit extraction is the defining mechanism for its development? We should be thinking about how this technology can be applied in the future without the limitations of the market :)

  • @HeadshotZealot Exactly! This is the scheme! Everything needs to take your eyes off the problems that exist!

  • @GameFrosts it's typo...and english is not my native language, so....

  • Is that kid playing with the on-board computer or is he giving me the finger?

How about focusing on eliminating traffic problems and wasted resources before we put a little blue cartoon in my blind spot? I'm probably missing the point here, but it seems to me the automotive industry has bigger fish to fry.

  • @cirabree It's break, not "brake".

  • Finally I can play that game where my stickman jumps over trees and cars for real.
