  • Hi designertjp--- the first lady she got into an 'argument' with was not Jackie Kennedy, was Lady Bird Johnson. And it really wasn't an argument ... it was that Eartha (as a black guest in the White House) dared to speak up against the Vietnam War. Lady Bird felt offended for her husband who was escalating things at the time, and she reportedly burst into tears. So there was no direct argument. But Ms Kitt was totally blackballed in the US after that and had to leave the country to find work.

  • Thank you for your Correction. I believe Eartha's incident in the White House turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she goes overseas and becomes even bigger.

  • My mother named me after this women, and now i am trying to find out, who this woman was. I have googled her, but does anyone know anything about her, which you don't find after a short google search? Love Kitt

  • Hi Kitt! Yes, you do have a lovely name. Refine your "search string pattern" on Eartha on Google and you'll get better results. Here's some goodies I know on Eartha K. She got into a violent argument with Jackie Kennedy once and alarmed America. She replaced Julie Newmar as Catwoman on the Batman

TV series and was a natural purrr with a perfect body. Find her song, "I Need a Man" among my favorites & enjoy!

  • Thanks for posting this... I had never seen it. So sad that Miss Kitt has passed on today... an enormous light has dimmed.

  • And the TV News was showing how she was still singing right up to the last.

  • Robbin Givens could play the role iof eartha kitt-if she does well she could win an oscar

  • Eartha was born from a white man and a black woman working in the cotton fields (illegitimate child). Her name is a mix beetwen "Earth" and "Harvest". She wrote a couple of books in the USA regarding her story that was rather tragic. I think she was probably also blacklisted in the USA in the 60's as she would also stand for the rights of black people (but I'm not sure about that). She was such a gifted person with a such beautiful soul.

  • Wonderful!

  • Eartha .. you touched so many lives here on earth ..

    We miss you ..

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Well, actually, yes. It was in the fifties and I was still going to public bathrooms that had signs saying "White Only" on them
