As a member of society that has been raised in a" I must have it now" culture going of- grid requires a complete paradigm shift in the way I must think. Carving a home into a remote Pacific Northwest wilderness is a massive undertaking. It would be easy to become discouraged If I stopped to consider the amount of work that needs to be done. God gives me strength. Establishing a homestead cant be rushed and needs to be completed in incremental steps. Every time we complete a project its one step closer to fulfilling our dream. This is the hardest work and the best work I have ever done. I Thank God for every day I get to spend on the mountain and will be eternally grateful to Him for calling my family and myself out of Babylon. Thank you Lord, Thank you...

  • Honda makes the best generators and small engine machines. I'd go for a 3000 with an inverter if possible!

  • @matt4270 yes just try picking one of those up by yourself

  • That is a great genset, my dad has one...but it does have a duty cycle and needs to have the oil checked and changed every so many hours of run time. With that aux. fuel system you need to resist the temptation to run it 24/7..

  • Hey, about the toughest homes you can build on a homestead (or just about anywhere) are American Ingenuity Domes or Monolithic Domes. They don't even "blink" at an F5 tornado!

  • How far along have you come? I was in your shoes back in 1998-1999. I have been offgrid ever since. Using 800 watts pc..500 watts wind and a dc propane genset that's about 1500 watts at 1800 rpm.

  • Do you have town water or a well?

  • Do you live near a town? Is social isolation a problem up there? If so have you found a solution to it? Thanks. I am contemplating moving out to a more rural area also but the possibility of being alone scares the you know what out of me.

  • I often day dream about living just like this. The only thing i would do different is run the generator on either home-made fuel or maybe this simple yet effective device.

  • thanks bro for the info.peace and god bless.

  • Check out the marine stores where smaller fishing boats are sold for good quality jerry-can style gas tanks with a built in pickup and sifon/pressure bulb for use as the external fuel tank. Some even come with an external hose that could be modified for the generator cap as described in this video.
