Bouvatier was a hard-working domestique who rode for a string of top teams from the mid-80s through the mid-90s, but whose only major victory was a stage in the Tour Med in 1991. This stage should have been the crowning moment of a career spent in the service of others; but it all went wrong with 200 meters to go . . . (Interestingly, both he and Millar were on the La Groupement team in 1995 and were forced to retire together when the team collapsed weeks before the TDF.)
I think looking bacl Roberts move to Fagor was a mistake..although he was forced into the leaders role with Roche out, but he should never have joined then in my opinion
This is actually the Col d'Agnes (which this years Tour went over). The Col de Latrape was the next, smaller climb. I was watching the Tour at Guzet Neige that day in 1988.
this was before EPO ruined the tour. when they climb now its as if they are even going up hill. shame drugs killed the sport

As a kid I used to giggle at how the riders on the Fagor team would always be identified on-screen as (for instance) "Robert Millar -- FAG."

Great! Thanks for posting.
In the Tour I think the big climbs are so much more exciting than the other stagesand for me the King otm is the winner of the Tour.
Robert Millar was climbing magic.
