This should have been Lazenby's film.

Great idea to use Peck from The Boys From Brazil as Blofeld. Really good editing job. The point was made about OHMSS that Connery wouldn't have seemed vulnerable enough for such an ending. He just seemed too tough. While Lazenby is no Connery, Connery himself said that for someone who had never acted before, he didn't do a bad job.

I once read that Lazenby was offered a contract to play Diamonds are Forever but at the advice of his agent, he turned it down. It was a decision he has since come to deeply regret. I think he once said that when he was Bond, all doors were open to him but after he left the role, no one would even return his phone calls. He had this amazing opportunity that so many actors would have killed for and he wasted it. He knows that he did a very stupid thing.

@ELO1138 you're right ... It was one of the best Bond films and I believe that Lazenby did a great job ! ... and I still can't believe that it was his first film ... to be honest ... I like him better then Daniel Craig !

With his long hai and beard Lazenby reminds me a little bit of Rock Hudson in the 70s, both great actors

I also felt my empathy to Lazenby but what if Connery who should played in OHMSS

@mahasurya We'll never know. OHMSS worked to Lazenby's advantage. In OHMSS (and in the book) Bond is lacking in confidence and patience with his superiors and himself. Lazenby played this side of Bond well since he himself was lacking in confidence during filming.
OHMSS was planned for Connery early in the series but kept getting pushed back. The script went through changes. When Connery left it was decided that the next Bond should be truer to the book and have less gadgets.

@ELO1138 Conti. So the script that was written before Connery left could've be radically different the final script in 69. Would Connery play the emotional ending or would it be another "off into the sunset with the girl" ending. Connery always had the look of confidence especially in the films post-Goldfinger. The train scene from FRWL is a prime example of Bond truly in a dire situation that he may not make it out of.
This was taken further in OHMSS when Bond is trying to hide the crowd.

@ELO1138 Conti. So would the film be good if Connery was in it? We'll never know. But this film is my favorite Bond film for a lot of reasons (music, direction, Diana Rigg, the story) but most of all due to Lazenby.
There was talk of remaking in film for Brosnan and some have suggested a version with Craig. I don't agree with this. This is film will always be Lazenby's film. He may have only starred in one, but its one of the best.
