That saying aside BG has always been a strategic "ground" - economically attractive with cheap labor force, low corporate taxes and it's perfect for tourism.

EU has much more benefit for having BG in the union than we ;) Other than traveling without visas and having the organised crime (politicians included) turning their eye to euro-funds and not so much to the people I don't see other benefits.
