Stefan Zelter (Oskar Werner) is a classical orchestra conductor who is sued for libel after statements made in a newspaper interview. He finds himself blacklisted and out of work and leaves his wife Antonia (Virginia Maskell) to be with the reporter Sally (Barbara Ferris). His wife nobly tells him he must never give up his music even though the two may never reconcile. Comedian John Cleese has a straight role as a television publicist and Donald Sutherland plays the role of a mutual friend whose marriage is on the rocks.

  • I've loved this film since I was 16 in 1968. Have seen it so many times, I can't count any more. Even on poor video / dvd transfers, it remains a jewel. No one can ever replace Oskar Werner, or the haunting Virginia Maskell. The scene at the dinner party is painfully exquisite. I hope to see it re-released one day. It is long overdue. Thanks for posting one of many special sequences.

  • Could you please upload the whole movie?A lot of people would say 'Thank you" to you!

  • Oskar Werner was one of the greatest actors of his generation, and those that have followed could learn a great deal about the true art of acting by watching his movies. He only took parts he could relate to and, unfortunately, because of this, there is not a large number to look at. But each and every film he was in was made better as a result of his presence.

  • @oakmag Hey would you happen to know where you could buy this? I can't find it anywhere!!!

  • Ok so Oskar Werner was a great actor. But Fahrenheit 451 shouldn't have been turned into a movie it sucks, Oskar is not Montag and Montag is not Oskar. This is great but Fahrenheit the movie SUCKS HORRIBLE ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The book is MAGNIFICENT though.

  • Oskar was so gorgeous...

  • A must see for Virginia Maskells fans. The movie in general is a great love story.Virginia's final performance was very good but somewhat haunting. This film deserves an official dvd release.

  • This is a funny sequence from an otherwise very poignant and downbeat film (overshadowed, in a way, by the suicide of one of its stars, Virginia Maskell, before its release). It cries out for DVD release.
