I was kind of confused when you said peel back the masking tape but still keep it attached to the sticker, because doesn't a decal have three layers?

yes...the first step removes the actual backing paper before applying to the surface when you can remove the application tape leaving the decal

I make them myself and sell them, check it out at ebay UK and search for ROBBIES-GUITAR-SHOP
