Last episode, we saw Bulk & Skull mourning the departure of three of their colleagues (their downed expressions for the newscast in 2.27 had a double meaning). & although I haven't had an opportunity to show it, there's something interesting about the steampunk background behind Lord Flesheatingbacteria in the thing where Goldar the manticore gets to play with the levers. I guess it's just fascinating to look at the walls in there. No B&S in 2.28.
It's about to get harder apparently because B&S start talking before the camera cuts to them. The editor's apparently trying to get artsy, but pinpointing an audio frame is much more bothersome than pinpointing a visual frame. You'd think B&S would have plenty of better things to do than hang out at a school dance. If you're still living in the past & your high school days were the high point of your life, check your driver's license birthdate for your midlife crisis & proceed to your nearest high school the next time they're performing some musical. Hopefully the "raw talent" you see there will put some things into perspective.
Besides, as punks you'd think B&S would have plenty of opportunities available to them with the other punks in their school. The problem is Angel Grove is populated entirely by preppies & idiots. What happened to the pretty-in-punk chicks they hung out with early on in Season 1? Did they move away, or were they simply smited by fire by the cruel Abercrombie world of Angel Grove? & no sooner do I write this than do I see a rather disturbing sight: female dopplegangers of B&S. It's amusing to think that the Bulk-shaped dopple is keen on Skull, & vice versa. It's too bad such Laurel-and-Hardy physics can't exist in this world. Of course, this could be done without the "peppy teen jumprope for fart" mentality where you MUST CONFORM! My high school dance was just an excuse for teens to hide from their parents, have sloppy sex, get drunk & urinate in the parking lot, & drive around in their cars wearing tacky rented suits/dresses.
Thank God for teenagers though, because where else can you find such comic relief about aging? To have an entire generation of people who adamantly refuse to make good decisions despite a plethora of examples instructing them to, while dangerous, is morbidly humorous. Delving deeper into stuff that makes people uncomfortable, Lord Zed, the incredible inside-out man, can be construed as a symbol for adolescent puberty, despite the fact the mid-twenty-something teenagers of Angel Grove apparently never went through this themselves. Excuse me if I keep expecting Mr. B Natural to pop out of one of those damn lockers.
Back to B&S like I'm SUPPOSED to be discussing, Bulk finds a note slipped through the vent in his locker (could've been anything). "Do you know what this means?" Time to call sexual harrassment panda, that's what it means. But trust B&S to take a different approach & come up with a different (albeit wrong) conclusion. Albeit is a useless word meaning "although". When did Skull become Bazooka Joe?
So let's examine exactly frightens B&S about their female dopplegangers. Is it the fact that they're female dopplegangers? This seems likely. B&S seem to know these two, however. Adam's earlier statement disproves the theory that they're hallucinations. Maybe B&S just aren't ready for the two punk chick cultures: beer & whoring, or yaoi & furries. Which is the lesser of two evils (don't glaze over alcoholism just because it isn't kitschy)? From what I've seen, I definitely don't think it's the former.
FINALLY another Ernie scene!! Ernie, wiping off his favorite napkin dispenser. This could quickly turn into one of my favorite sequences. & Ms. Appleby's back, too (but in another scene) to tip Tarzan & his PRs off that Scorpina is masquerading as a student, a plot twist that really ought to have been a long-term storyarc. Man, you can't lose with a good Ernie scene. At first I was uncertain about these femdopples, but I think they could've made quite amusing recurring guest characters on the B&S show. Now what the heck were their names?

What special powers do gypsies have, besides lycanthropy & fortune telling? Optic blasts? I like how she poses with them. Leave it to Billy to insult the gypsies. What's next, making fun of the Amish? And another scene dies with a whimper. & there's nothing worse than having someone as DORKY as Rocky insult you. A compendium of dorky Rocky moments needs its own series.
I keep wondering what arcade game Bulk is supposed to be playing. ERNIE'S A POWER RANGER! The foreshortening can't be wrong! This episode is the most insulting however, because it equates fun with irresponsibility which is a fundamental of the McCarthy era.
