This video explains how to use gdb within emacs. So you can debug your code using graphical tools instead of character commands. (This video has been made on Ubuntu 8.04 using recordmydesktop.)

  • Thanks a lot, Aditya. I was really struggling with getting gdb to work in emacs. Your video helped. Emacs to a newcomer can sure seem like rocket science!

  • @nitinpur May be I should do a series on emacs. What do people think?

  • So where are the graphical tools?

  • @rbarraud What graphical tool are you referring to?

  • very interesting.. i'm tempted to use emacs as an ide looks like it is possible!

  • Emacs can be IDE for perl & bash too.

  • So where are the graphical tools?

  • YOU ARE AWESOME!!!

  • @byg7: yeah, it's possible. try cedet and autocomplete too. also have a look at "global"

  • Emacs can also show local variables and backtrace inside the Emacs frame which makes using gdb with Emacs even cooler.
