Madalyn Murray O'Hair (April 13, 1919 September 29, 1995) was an American atheist. She was the founder of American Atheists and, either openly or behind the scenes, was its President for 32 years from 1963 to 1995.

She is best known for the lawsuit, Murray v. Curlett, which led to a landmark Supreme Court ruling and ended the practice of daily prayer in American public schools. O'Hair later founded American Atheists[1] and became so controversial that, in 1964, Life magazine referred to her as "the most hated woman in America."[2]

She was murdered in 1995, along with her son and granddaughter, for reasons unrelated to her public image and activism.

if god would condemn people to suffer for all eternity then he is evil.

  • Madalyn was fearless and brilliant.

  • she was indeed. we need more people who can stand up for what they believe in without fear. but also people who stand up with intelligence.

she was a great person who tried to get people to think about the things in which they believed. =)

    Are fairy tales your specialty?

  • You know what, Thank you waters for killing that bitch, she deserves to burn in hell, she thinks it was so funny, she is getting the up close experience of God

  • @teriag You're stating Pascal's Wager. If you decide to say that you believe, an all-knowing god would know that you don't actually believe, but instead are just gambling that it's true. With a huge number of past gods, present gods, and future gods believed in by people, what are your chances of choosing the right one?

  • What an obnoxious creature.

  • I hope you`re burning in hell O Hair. Thanks to creeps loke you, God has become a contriversial subject. Bet you didn`t object to "in God we trust" on our currency you hateful old bag.

  • @teriag

Payers at schools should be optional, not compulsory. Religion was frced on me against my will for a large part of my life. Atheists don't believe in God but also don't believe in a Devil. The burning in Hell in particular is already one good reason for not believing in any kind of hateful God. But atheists don't necessarily not believe in an after life.
