@TheTrippybutterfly You need to read comments a little more closely instead of from an angry defensive point of view. what I said was....the era before the 1920's (which means the early 1900's) beauty in a woman was based on a more robust figure. Look at any photos of the beauties of that day...I said Lillian Russell to give you an example.

@TheTrippybutterfly People in the 1920's would look at what was thought of as ravishing beauties (Lillian Russell come to mind) from a previous era as fat etc. Beauty is different in each generation.

An early example of what happened when you crossed Louis B. Mayer...

Garbo and Gilbert really sparked the screen, ..wonder what went wrong...

@Shoknifeman I can see your point...she was a talented actor..but in todays eyes..she isnt considered a gorgeous beauty....many fall into that category..Pola Negri...Gloria Swanson..etc

Sorry but, I find her less than attractive...on the other hand Louise Brooks was a babe

I think that silent era was a very special period which is lost forever. This was, in my opinion, the essence of acting because you had to express everything with your face, with your eyes. And at that time, Hollywood was so lucky to have such great stars like John Gilbert, like Greta Garbo, like Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Rudolph Valentino and many others. Garbo had something extraordinary... we will never get to know her thoroughly, she is a mystery and let it be so!
