@danbar73 He survived the most adverse circumstances any upcoming tenor would ever have to face : a decade of 3 Tenors mania and media blitz surrounding them; absolutely no help from the media; without even a single studio recording of standard/romantic lyric role - during a period of EIGHT YEARS,8 brilliant years ('90 to'97) as a young, pure lyric. No other tenor would have survived as he has. So would RV lose some sleep over some nameless ratings abusers? Give it up fellows, useless.
@lyrictenorfan You're right about RV being terrific and the tremendous ovation he got from the audience. What a remarkable amount and quality of singing he gave that lucky audience! I believe Luciana Serra, who was marvelous too, let RV have the audience to himself out of generosity and appreciation for what he had accomplished that night.
If these people think that RV's stature would be diminished by arbitrarily dumping "dislikes" on his videos, they are just wasting their time. He surv
danbar73, like you, I'm concerned about the recent run of RV "dislikes". Just one person with multiple accounts can dislike the same video numerous times. Of course, he or she can also choose to enter "likes", but dislikes are far more detrimental.
Now that 3coloraturafan has kindly posted the whole opera (L'elisir d'amore - Genova 1995) the booing issue can be put to rest. After the aria, Mr. Vargas received resounding applause of well over one minute (some "bis" sounded like boos), performed an encore and then got another long ovation. In fact, the audience continued to applaud when the conductor tried to go on. There is no question that RV was terrific and the spectators agreed (also confirmed by the curtain call).
The sound of boooo is not the same as biiiiis. There were a few boobirds. In the last 48 hours, a similar group (not necessarily the same one here) struck this posting here. A week ago, this video had 12 'likes', 0 'dislikes' almost a year after posting; then, a bunch of 'dislikes' just sprouted overnight.Same thing happened with some of RV's most acclaimed postings w/ 0'dislikes' for even much longer than one year- also in last 48 hrs. Ratings should be discarded to put these culprits out of work
I don't believe that an Italian audience would boo a singer who sings this aria as beautifully as RV did here even if tied to the chair by the director. However,I think they would boo anyone whose acting insults their mentality, as in the case of Pavarotti at La Scala. I don't believe he was booed for messing up a B in Don Carlo, but for sobbing uncontrollably to cover up the bad note as he was trying to kill Philip. Perhaps if he screamed some Italian profanities at him, instead,it would be ok.
it's a great singing...amazinng and beautiful... the acting not so good..maybe thats why they booing...but RV, sound amazing..and he sounds better in the actuality...well done mr. Vargas
I believe that the booing was done by a small band of rabid Pavarotti fans who could not let go and accept that their fading idol had been outclassed and surpassed by RV since the early 90's. What is hard to understand is that they are still around, as we speak, trying to diminish this fine artist. I don't know of any other singer who has been victimized, disadvantaged and deprived - all in the name of Pavarotti.
