quality before quantity is a good rule of thumb.. a lot of pipers try so hard to play the pipes for long sets and fast that they forget that piping began as a slow and intricate activity, and was not about speed or showmanship. I worked on my slow hornpipe for a year before I put it up, because getting the fingering right is far more important than giving a good show or playing fast.
