RNLI: Severn class lifeboat

Short clip of the Severn class all weather lifeboat at sea. The Severn class lifeboat was introduced in 1995 and shares the same hull shape as the Trent class. It carries a powered Y boat that can be launched and recovered by a lightweight crane to enable rescues close to shore. Its propellers are protected so it can take ground without damage.

Sorry to hear that she needed repair!

The prototype was a non-standard build & was never an operational lifeboat like the Severn class lifeboats in the film. In fact it was due to lessons learnt during the trials on her that meant that all operational lifeboats had protected propellers as standard. Interestingly enough, all slipway launched boats, like the Tamar class are testament to how well protected the propellers are.

the last bit is nonsense..! the prototype of this boat has just had both props repaired due to it grounding and bending them..cause...? the moon epigee..! unusually low tide.. sat on them an fukt them..! i know this because i removed them..!!
