@blastywasty I think the surname Weir is a play on words from creator Paul Feig, who said he was called Paul Fag by his tormentors in high school. Sam, is called Sam Queer by Alan the bully in this show.

As much as I loved this show, I also struggled with how the Freaks treated Lindsey. I felt bad for her because they DID get her into trouble many times. That's why I gained so much more respect for this show when they developed the characters in the later episodes - Lindsey learned how to defend herself, but more importantly, they revealed the stories behind the Freaks and how their insecurities led them to act the way they do.
I still don't understand why such a great show was cancelled....
