Not to be confused with our Dial-A-Dekatron, this is a dekatron dialer, built from our YS-601 dekatron demonstrator and a standard rotary telephone dialer. The dekatron shown is a Sovtek OG-4 2kHz counter. The glow position advances the same number of places as the number dialed.

Dekatrons are decimal counting and display tubes, used mostly in frequency counters, nuclear scalers and similar through the 1940's and 1950's. While they perform a computing function, they were not widely used in tube-based computers. The only computer I know of which made significant use of dekatrons is the AERE WITCH (1948), which was constructed from large numbers of telephone exchange relays and used huge banks of dekatrons for memory.

It's a dekatron vacuum tube, they are counting tubes as far as i know , they seem to be used to display figures of some sort but all i really know is that they were used in early business computer parts in conjunction with other vacuum technology. As far as thoer manufacture it is difficult to give you any leads as I myself am hunting for techical papers on them
