http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com I gotten a number of questions from people wanting to know more about some of the lower priced DSLR film rigs. I happen to own both the indisystem indiSQUARE and the CPM FILM TOOLS DSLR Flyer kit.

The indisystem indiSQUARE is one of the lowest priced DSLR rigs I've seen on the market. The entire unit is made out of 6061 aluminum and is very solid. There are 6 mounting holes across the top 2 of which are 1/4 20 threaded and 4 are 3/8 inch holes with no threads. The indiSQUARE will set you back about $130 + shipping. It's a bit on the heavy side, the handles aren't very durable and it could use a better arranged mounting system, but if your looking to save money this could be a usable option. You can find out more here: http://indisystem.com/products/indisquare

The CPM FILM TOOLS DSLR Flyer cage Kit Will cost you about $100 more then the indiSQUARE but the price gets you a number of great upgrades. To start out with the CPM Flyer is about a third the over all weight, It has well designed positionable handles and a much better mounting configuration. It comes standard with a 501 compatible quick release adapter and four 8 inch 15mm rails. The other nice thing about CPM FILM TOOLS gear is that it is fully upgradeable. So in the future you can always buy a few more parts and turn this into a shoulder rig. If you'd like to find out more about the CPM DSLR Flyer you can check out there website: http://www.cpmfilmtools.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=044_FLYR_DSLR+-+44

Or this unit is also for sale over at B&H:

  • Hey I was wondering if the CPM FILM TOOLS DSLR Flyer Rig can be mounted on a tripod. If not, is there any modification to make it be able to do this? I just bought it and it is being shipped to me and I forgot to consider this before I bought it. Thanks!

  • @charlesfrankfilm You can mount it to a tripod. Just change the thumb screws out on the belly plate for Allen head screws and you'll be set. The local hardware store should have them and CPM has them on their website as well.

  • One of your best videos yet!

I'm learning about what picture styles to use ATM. What do you recommend?

Neutral - contrast and sharpness all the way down and saturation 2 stops down...?

    Marvel Cine 3.3?

  • @CYNFELYN23 I've got a video coming up on that as well. If I plan to color correct I usually use the marvel cine 3.3 with the contrast slightly adjusted. If not I just dial in the look i'm going for in camera and let the camera handle it (if you do this make sure you lock the white balance in). Thats the lazy way to go, and can be hard to repeat over multiple cameras but if i'm just shooting something for youtube like the video above it works fine and looks quit good with very little effort.

  • WHERE CAN YOU GET ONE ANY MORE?

    (CPM)?

or what do you suggest now

  • U are one of the only people on YouTube that knows what hes talking about you deserve more subscribers and views keep the videos coming

  • @onelonedork Thanks!!

  • Nice review, i´m just looking for this two cages, i made my mind for the CPM, thanks.

  • Great video, Thanks the the review

  • @JoshuaBeeLoved If you do pick up a matte box take a look at the swing out types, they're much more useful on DSLR rigs. If you pick up a cpm rig then you could easily mount a swing out matte box on the top two rails which will leave you more room for a follow focus and other gear on the bottom rails.
