The Spencer Davis Group was formed in Birmingham, England in 1963 by guitarist Spencer Davis, and the original foursome included Steve Winwood on organ and vocals, his brother Muff on bass, and Pete York on drums. "Gimme Some Lovin" was one of their biggest hits peaking at #7 in January of 1967. Steve Winwood would leave the group later that year to form "Traffic" spelling the end of this bright rock foursome.

  • This original, unfutzed recording (on UK Fontana) was issued in October 1966 - the "bells and whistles" version (courtesy Jimmy Miller, with maracas, cowbell, piano, backing female vocals - and a different Winwood vocal take) on US United Artists came out two months later, in December 1966.

  • DAYS OF THUNDER :)

  • the dude singing as we all know who it is, on the original studio version is like 13 yrs old

  • Thumbs up if you know this is from the movie Days of Thunder

  • This song is one of the all time greats. An a capella group at Georgetown does it.

  • @kbrfarley Nice to know the younger generations love this music. I raised my children on it.

  • Steve Winwood is a musical prodigy, a phenom. It is still unbelievable that he was only 14 when he joined The Spencer Davis Group. He sounds soo much like Ray Charles its incredible. This is an amazing song, one that that just puts you in a great mood!!!!

  • Great Song. This song and these musicians really rock except for the drummer. He really shits. The band really set the barr low when they auditioned this drummer some 50 plus years ago. Oh well. Thanks for the video {:-)

  • Great classic. Frankly, I learned about it listening to this Dutch cover from Janse Bagge Bend from the early Eighties: watch?v=f3fQ3zp_fNs

I still can't help myself singing "Solli citere" instead of "So glad we made it"

  • sad how some don't realize how fucking incredible this song is
