Recorded from my SGX+SCD setup. This is the intro to the game, which has been patch for English (although you can't really tell from this intro). The video has 'scanlines' so view/watch it in 1:1 mode.

Also, this is the second effects test for virtualdub and capture footage.

Capture process (Tweak BT8x8 plugin used):
- captured 720x480, luma notched filter enabled
- noise filter turned off. (both fields)
- chroma filter turned on (both fields)
- AGC enabled (both fields)
- Luma peaking off
- Luma vertical comb filter off
- Full luma range off
- temporal noise filter turned off

Vdub:
- 2x2: downsize filter (normal, not HQ one) - gives 360x240 output and directly converts 60fps to 30fps (since the fields are actually frames, you get a frame blend)
- Resize: 720x240 bicubic Precise (A=1.00)
- Resize: 720x480 nearest neighbor (don't want any fake vertical filtering)
- TV: I/Q 3x3 average
- Logo(1.7): 720x480 bmp file with even lines as blue and odd lines as black. Blue set to transparent color. Alpha set to 66 to blend black scanlines with the rest of the image
- Levels: (left to right top) 20, 1.1414, 244 (left to right bottom) 0, 241

  • Looking good. By 1:1 do you mean not fullscreen or am I missing a setting? It's too bad that Youtube doesn't allow for eliminating 360p options, because that royally screws up the scanline filter.

  • @gamecomparisons Yeah, not full screen. Or at least for me. When I watch it in full screen, I get a scaling artifact that's not a nice multiple - so the scanline effect looks a little funny. I might try outputting to 1280x720 for youtube stuff as it seems to help for this.

  • What would be even more startling is if a TG16 game had the intro from an Odyssey 2 game.

But seriously, watch the aspect ratio for anything 720 pixels wide. The proper method based on Rec. 601 is to crop to 704 then resize to 640.

  • @tepples Yeah, in the all the tweaking I did I totally forget to adjust for pixel aspect ratio.

  • @malducci So far I haven't found an highly compressed encoding method that doesn't add artifacts. Youtube doesn't give us an option. Divx Converter doesn't either. I have been limited to a very old Dr. Divx 1 install or Virtual Dub Divx encoding in Windows XP so far to get higher bitrate compression.
