Last week I received a Motorola Droid Pro review unit from the lovely people at Verizon. It joins the ranks of the Droid 2 and the Droid X, but adds some unique features...

Most obvious is the QWERTY keyboard, which looks and feels exactly like a BlackBerry keyboard. There's a pretty decent camera (5 MP autofocus with dual LED flash) and a global radio (CDMA + GSM/HSPA) on board. Sadly, the portrait layout means the screen is smaller (3.1″) and lower resolution (HVGA -- 480×320 pixels) than its siblings.

I've already recorded the launch of this phone for Engadget during CTIA, but check out my unboxing video and expect some pictures soon!

  • Any info on what GSM bands the radio supports?

  • @MatthewLSottile it's quad band EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and tri-band HSPA (850/1900/2100). Word on the street is even if/when unlocked, it's unable to connect to 850/1900 GSM networks in the US (AT&T & T-Mobile) because of custom baseband firmware.

  • Hey Myriam, what camera are you using to record this video?

  • @MyNokiaBlog just a cheap Sony point-and-shoot

  • they copied the blackberry keyboard style

  • @Honeysingh555 no shit

  • @Honeysingh555 It's exact copy of the Curve keyboard, I think. I guess RIM doesn't have patents on hardware designs lol

  • This phone looks good to me I like it this kills blackberry droid forever

  • @spikeman23 it is a man.

  • @georgemichaelrules Not really, She sounds like a man.

  • sorry for the comment my sister was on my account when she sent it. So sorry for that comment. :)

  • @jordanstepp hoed.

  • @qrpkgrl yeah actually the camera's really good for these type of videos. Autofocus pretty fast.

  • @jordanstepp first, it's a cheap Sony point and shoot digital camera - $79. Second, I've set it to macro (auto-focus) and it's doing exactly what it's supposed to - continuously re-focusing close up - the problem is that it's slow...

I'll eventually get a better cam with HD and a faster macro (auto-focus). In the meantime, buck up and shut up!
