Sputnik and the race to the Moon
fifty years ago on th 4th of October 1957 a Russian R7 rocket with a payload of simple transmitter left its launchpad.
Sputnik's broadcast heralded the start of the space race and a journey to the Moon.
To celebrate this Anniversary a new edit of rare NASA and Soviet footage was created.

  • Mmmmh, the penny has dropped, took a while. The reason for showing the return from the moon is that within JFKs original statement of intent, the mission was not only to land a man on the moon but also to return him safely to Earth.

Thanks again for your interest, have a look at TanDog's Saturn5! if you havnt already.
