Ordinary Woman
Works hard to please them
Pouring all her love in
Her wash and feeding

Thinking only of the other one
She casts her needs aside
Leaving undiscovered songs unsung
To be a wife to raise a child
And I been there too

Ordinary Man
Works hard to please them
Bearing all the burden
To guard and lead them

Thinking only of the other one
He casts his needs aside
Leaving undiscovered lands unknown
To be a man to make a life
And I...

See their tired faces all around me
Tryin' so hard to do what's right
But the body's aching and the soul is weak
And the circumstances rarely kind

These broken vessels, these worn down machines
Clumsy and difficult to fly
Mistakes and messes destined to repeat
We fall again, we stand again, we try

We all trying, fumbling, trying
Struggling, trying, finding our way
We all trying, fumbling, trying
Struggling, trying, losing our way

Ordinary Human
Works hard to please them
Hoping and believing
More alms appease them

Thinking only of a job well done
We cast our need aside
Leaving unacknowledged fears alone
To agonize to stay alive
And I been there too

  • Great job sweetheart, this song is my favorite yet! well done!!

  • @egz7117 Thank you, darling, it's mine, too!

  • Great talent, great story in the song and pics. Love it, Love it! Keep up the good work Mollie.

  • @Pdan356 Thank you! At shorpy.com, you can also read background info about many photos. My favorite in this video, is about the man smoking the pipe at 3:38, "Oregon, August 1939. 'Unemployed lumber worker goes with his wife to the bean harvest. Note Social Security number tattooed on his arm...' A public records search shows that 535-07-5248 belonged to one Thomas Cave, born July 1912, died in 1980 in Portland." Such a striking contrast from the way we must guard this info today!

  • Great audio- Mollie's voice is so clear and lovely, and the piano really pops! I really like the images, too. Sharing.

  • @BoneDoctora Thank you so much for sharing! =)

  • @erok2020 Thank you, friend!

  • @cslemp Thank you, friend! Yes, I have enjoyed hearing roots influences seep into modern music, and have been particularly interested in the current "British soul invasion." I'm thankful that my current project with Emily gives me a place to try writing in some older styles. We have more original songs in the works!

  • Love this style, Mollie. The time is right for a folk music revival. Isn't that over 10 songs now? I need to buy the whole album...

  • Great song! Thanks for sharing!
