Greetings,
This is a powerful snowstorm that struck the island of Montreal and much of Eastern Canada and the Eastern/Northeastern United States. This same storm is similarly responsible for the extensive ice accretions attributed to the persistent freezing rain in many Midwest U.S states. In Canada, including Montreal, many affected regions saw up to a foot of snow (about 30 cm), while most received at least half of that to about 20 cm. With all this, the storm ended up being possibly the largest we've seen so far this season in terms of snowfall accumulations. The storm possessed quite a bit of moisture, mainly because it was drawing it in from two sources of warm moist maritime airmasses.
Winter really sucks. Snowstorms are alright, I suppose, but they get redundant relatively quickly. Bring on the t-storms! I hope February is not as relentless as January was - I don't think it will be, but still...
Thanks for watching! The video was taken from Southwestern Pierrefonds, which is in the West Island of Montreal.

I'm normally a guy who loves the cold, but I'd hate to be those people. I hope they were ok out there.
What temperature was it? 5F?

Hi Xcat,
I myself had to be out there to head on out to class later that day, and it wasn't very pleasant. Watching it is one thing, but being in it is something else altogether. I really hate the cold and the snow!
As for the temperature, it was about -7 Celsius for most of the day, which equates to about 19 F - perhaps one reason as to why the snowflakes were so abundant and large. Lots of moisture as well.
Thanks for watching!
