Denis Donaldson worked for British intelligence at the heart of the IRA. He was close to Adams and McGuinness and was a 'fixer' in the party. After it emerged that he was a British agent, he turned up shot to death in Donegal. Irish police have identified the killer as a top IRA man in Tyrone. This murder took place in 2006, when the IRA were on ceasefire and had allegedly 'dumped arms'.

31-July-07 - CLAIMS the Garda have identified the killer of Sinn Fein agent Denis Donaldson as a top IRA man from Tyrone come as "no surprise", said Junior Minister Ian Paisley jnr last night. The DUP former Policing Board member said: "As to who carried out the murder, that in itself is not news. This allegation comes as no surprise. But what would be news would be seeing some action and seeing someone arrested.
