  • Is there some plan to make a "PowerBee"?

  • No. The Coldfire processor contains a subset of 68k instruction set and therefor comparatively easy to use. Power PC would mean full emulation,

  • @acpfirebee Then I assume that to be meaningfull, TOS, AES and everything else should be ported to PowerPC. Am I right?

  • No. Because we would have to port every application to PowerPC as well. That discussion is as old as the last 68k further development. Atari community loves to talk about ideas for new processors. ;) But we decided to use the Coldfire as it is the nearest one to 68k (in fact a subset of 68k instructions), And therefore we are the Atari Coldfire Project.

  • Wouldn't it have been a better idea to allow the use of commonly available USB keyboards? Those Mega ST/Mega STE/TT030 keyboards aren't easy to find anymore without buying a whole computer.

  • @gamewizard The FireBee has USB and PS/2 ports. Support for those keyboard devices is not yet available, but of course it is planned.

  • This video went viral on Madrid

  • That compact flash card should be on the outside like all the ports so when you build the case you won't enclose it inside. Just an idea. Also, USB keyboard, WLAN would be nice :)

  • Nice work, although I'd like to see some Atari apps running before I get my hopes up. Could you run some Falcon tech demos on it and a range of Atari software?

Also it would be good to do an 'out the box' tutorial, as it would be good to see how much effort is required to get the thing running running from scratch.

I can appreciate this is still relatively new, but you need to market the thing properly asap to really grab people's attention and show them what it can really do.

  • Ok. I'm huge Atari ST fan. Is it possible to support this project? Then how? Finally, can I buy one of these machines somehow? When?

    This seems very nice :-)
