but if you are able to feed and water it twice a day in hot water I guess it would work but a large bucket or larger planter might give better results. Also, during hot weather if you don't want to waste water, skip the flowers as they will sop up all the light rains so you will have to water very frequently.

Thank you for your comment :) A larger planter would be better as watering such a shallow planter is hard to keep up with...Other factors considered were availability, $, and aesthetics(It was for a gazebo in front of a YMCA). As far as Flowers sopping up light rains...I believe that the living mulch effect of the plants covering the bare soil would benefit the watering needs and help maintain soil moisture.
