The Kingdom of Bahrain—a name that translates as "Two Seas"—is actually an archipelago of 33 low-lying islands located in the heart of the Gulf. Situated along traditional Arabian and international trade routes between Asia and the West, the Kingdom has served as an important port and center of business for thousands of years. Today, the capital city of Manama is a vibrant cosmopolitan center offering an open society and an educated workforce enhanced by modern cultural am enities like museums, shopping, restaurants and fine hotels.

Though modest in population, land area and resources, Bahrain has achieved considerable social and economic status. Our modern roads, international airport, telecommunications, public services, medical facilities and schools are considered among the best in the Middle East, if not the world.

Located just 25 kilometers from Saudi Arabia and the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, Bahrain is easily accessible by sea, air and even automobile via the King Fahd Causeway. Completed in 1986, the causeway provides a symbolic and virtual link between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, connecting the archipelago to mainland Arabia for the first time since people first inhabited the islands. Today, the causeway serves as a vital link to the entire Middle East.

  • i love bahrain, from saudi

  • DOWN DOWN HAMAD THE MURDERER and corrupt government.

  • Al-Khalifa government = ANIMALS.

Said on the news today the USA is selling Bahrain $53 million worth of weapons. Nice.

Makes you think how incredibly hard up or callous the US Government really is. A mere $53 mill for suffering and abuse of human rights that Bahraini government does to it's majority there.

Selling arms to regimes like this only enforces the diabolical truth of how low and corrupt the USA are being in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I wipe my arse with the Al-Khalifas !

  • Reform now. Listen to the people!

  • @xerojreffaj "when the corruption and nepotism is endemic throughout the whole government." The 4 sacked were in fact major ministers, in a government that isn't as corrupt as you like to assume as far as CorruptionIndex go (6/10) thus the sacking of major minister would make massive changes. Keep in mind that all these reforms and deceleration of further projects to come were made in a period of one month - Call for dialogue. The same month Al-Wefaq hijacked Bahrain wider by the day.

  • @xerojreffaj " not shot a single protester, then you've got your head in the sand." Don't put words in my mouth xerojreffaj. If you don't want to bother reading my whole posts then don't even bother replying - in the period of time where the police force and army were pulled out for over a month, yes - not a single protester was shot. However, not many westerners know of this period of time since their media turned a blind eye to it.

  • @CreepyLizard And if you think that the government has 'released all political prisoners' and not shot a single protester, then you've got your head in the sand. And sacking 4 scapegoats means nothing, when the corruption and nepotism is endemic throughout the whole government. That's sad, because until you made those ludicrous claims you seemed quite reasonable and rational.
