the kids are totally picked at random from the audience.i too thought it looked well rehearsed and practiced.but it is not!my son and i went to this circus 2007 in denver and my son was one of the 2 chosen from the audience.we knew nothing of it till he was chosen.it is real kids from the audience!!!

yes the kids are not on the staff because when they came to my town one kid was a girl and these two kids are boys

yeah, the kids are plants. Bello actually has his family travel with him, as do many of the performers (with family) on Ringling.

I think the kids were pre-programmed before the show, but aren't on staff.
What do you propose for editing? I think the whole thing is part of the sketch. Camera work is bad, I'll admit.
