trionfai doesn't match the dramatic essence of la luce langue... especially since, verdi's music had matured at the time that he wrote la luce langue in 1865 so the music has the essence of his later music, while the finale still has the sense of the 1840's when the work originally premiered.

I was fortunate to have seen Oliva Stapp in the 1865 version of Macbeth at the Washington Opera about 30 years ago. Lady Macbeth is a demanding role and she delivered! Some think she is too melodramatic, (she has a commanding stage presence), but I would rate her interpretation as one of the best.

Olive Stapp is wonderful. Too bad more recordings aren't available. I have her recording (live) of Alfano's Cyrano De Bergerac.
She also recorded a song or two on New World Records, music by Charles Griffes.
So is this music from the original version of McBetto?

The work went in scene to the Politeama Margherita: the theatre Carlo Felice was still unfit for use because of the destructions of the second world war.
Olivia Stapp was wonderful.
