you probably used an anchor tag because thumbnails are usually linked to larger images

well theres still a good use for 2 images, you can easily interchange photos without having to keep going into photoshop. I think thats the whole idea around CSS, making a site easily editable for websites under constant development and a formal STYLE for the website.
