a set piece - usually performed at the start of a opera season, and also any other auspicious occasions; this ceremony is entitled: "Buan Xiang" in the Teochew language. Yun Xiao 云 霄 Teochew Opera Co; Fujian Province. Any one know the symbolisms of all the actions?

  • This is called 六国大封相 from the Warring States period. The states of Chu,Qi,Yan,Zhao,Han & Wei formed an alliance against the state of Qin. They selected a famous person (can't remember name) to be prime minister of the alliance. My father explained the significance of it in Teochew operas 40+ years ago but I had forgotten.
