Right after arriving (just before 2:00pm) I briefly met Samantha Bee and Jason Jones. Didn't pester them for autographs or anything. I simply had some doubt over where to line up, so I asked them about that. They were nice and helpful, and I think I successfully hid my goober-like fandom.
While standing (first, muahahahaha!) in line Demetri Martin scooted by on one of those skinny skateboard-like things with handlebars and only two wheels. (Do those have a name? ... Damn, I miss being able to bike to work.) Based on his standup (which I've been binging on lately) and some interviews I found online, he seems delightfully quirky, highly intelligent, and all around adorable. If I were inclined toward celebrity infatuations, he'd be the big crush right now. *grins*
The two guard guys were nice. I chatted with each of them briefly. One of them looked like he could be Jason Jones' brother. I didn't ask though, as I imagine he gets that question a lot and, whether or not it's an accurate guess, I'm sure it's annoying.
Speaking of annoying things, what kind of dumbass thinks that keeping your mouth shut while shuffling up to the front of the line also makes you invisible? Or perhaps it's that if you lock your face into a mood of nervous distraction while never looking directly at the line, then the others who've been standing there for several hours will assume you're delusional and, out of fear, leave you alone? "Oh gee, I'm sorry. I thought the line ended at the front door and began with those folk curling around the side of the building. How did I become so confuzzled? *finger snap*"
For several folk just arriving who pulled this crap I pointed to the ground beside me saying "beginning", then waved as they moved to the back. I'm not totally an ass, it's just that I'm a habitually late person and I've never copped a self-righteously indignant attitude towards those ahead of me, never treated them like they were stupid or oblivious or tried to con my way ahead. I do not begrudge other people their prime seating when they arrive before me (as most usually do). That's the way it works. Only this time, the "they" was me, cuz I was first. So booyah ya slow pokes!
Before entering began the Daily Show interns handed out mini water bottles and icee pops to the gathered crowd. The gesture was thoughtful and, I have no doubt, appreciated by all.
After we entered the studio the warm-up comedian (I forget his name, sorry dude!) did a great job. I'm kicking myself, though, for not joining the mob of shouters when he asked who'd done international travel recently. Damn my despicable politeness! Why they hell did my grade school teach me to wait my turn to speak? It's a disadvantageous habit I tell ya!
Jon Stewart was wonderful. He seemed perfectly in his element taking questions from the crowd, yet also exhausted. I wondered whether it was physical tiredness from being busy and dealing with two kids (which he's mentioned on TDS), or psychological exhaustion from dealing with politics, news media, and reading the often unsettling books presented by authors visiting the show. Don't get me wrong; he did a fabulous job. It just worried me a bit.
The correspondent for that day's story, mythical ('I don't belong to the executive or legislative branches of government, but am simultaneously in both, shazaam! Suck on that U.S. Constitution!') Dick Cheney, was John Oliver. Yay for the funny British fella! I've found older stuff with him on YouTube. The 'Mock the Week' segment stashed among my favorites is great, but surely there's more. Anybody know where I can find video of his stand up?
Sidenote: I don't think my voice rises and falls so damn much normally. It's definitely been surprising for me to pick up on my own linguistic and other personal habits from making these videos.
So ends the single longest description to any video I've posted on YouTube. Adios folks!
Lucky you! I reserved tickets for my boyfriend and I to see The Daily Show this coming April. How early would you recommend showing up? I know the confirmation email suggests 3:30, but what would you say? Earlier, later..? Thanks :)

I'm a big ole nerdy fangirl, so I showed up around 2:00. This made me first in line, and second in line came shortly after. If you just want to make sure you'll get in, I imagine 3:30 should be fine. If you want to get the best seat possible, it may be a good idea to go earlier.
Enjoy your trip! :-)
