Fanny Fan (范麗) and Mak Kay (麥基) acting as blind date surrogates for Lin Dai (林黛) and Peter Chen Ho (陳厚) in the 1961 Shaw Brothers musical Les Belles (千嬌百媚). Keep an eye out for veteran character actor Helena Law Lan (羅蘭) as the cashier.
Both Fanny Fan and Mak Kay started off in Shaw Brothers' Cantonese division in 1957 and then switched to its Mandarin division in 1959 and 1960 respectively. Fanny went to become the leading sexbomb of the 60s, while Mak Kay left Shaw Brothers to work in the Cantonese industry, where he was usually typecast as a gangster or bad rich kid. But I think this scene shows that both stars had a natural charm that would have been well suited to romantic comedies.
