FINNISH PHONE FIRM Nokia's scientists are hard at work on making smartphones more durable and adding a raft of interactive capabilities.

Nokia showed off the Kinetic Concept device for the first time today. Users will be able to twist the device to flick through lists, bend the device to activate a selected option and even squeeze the handset to answer phone calls. The applications for gaming purposes are also endless.

Nokia remained tight-lipped about software and specifications, but did say that it has been working on such concepts since 2008. It remains to be seen whether this device will actually make it to market, but the possibilities are intriguing, especially with Windows 8 on the horizon. µ
