Tony Wheeler, one of the founders of Lonely Planet, rediscovers the capital of Syria - Damascus. The oldest continuously-inhabited city in the world, it has a place in history and you can feel it. The winding thoroughfare 'Straight Street' is referred to in the Christian Bible. Other attractions include the Ummayad Mosque, one of the oldest and holiest in the Muslim world, and the walled Old City where you should deliberately get lost. While wandering around, look out for a very strange collection of old American cars that haven't suffered the rust of Havana's more well-known collection.

  • Among my top ten lists is Damascus. I love history. Forget politics. They are one of life's constants like death and taxes. I want to see a font of civilization. Old Americano!

  • @trexaur123 i'm sure he's not, but i guess it's a factual error caused by an academic dispute. there are about 5 cities, who can claim for oldest city in the world. there is no proof.

  • @Felipo83 sorry.. a punctuation mistake

"sorry.....its not, check it yourself, yet another typical Lebanese person, trying to prove that Lebanon is the best thing in the world come on ,check every video about Syria, in each you`ll find a Lebanese bashing the video for nothing, i don't care if you have the best walk, talk, laugh, smile,or anything you keep claiming,

just leave our videos alone. and its not made by a Syrian ,so why would he lie????

  • @Felipo83 sorry its not check another typical lebanese

  • @Dieselboy88 typical lebanese hmpf

  • @xreddreads420x

yes it is , although people are not so westernized there (which i love), but they distinguish very well between the American government and the people , and syria has always been the place where people would go for safet , FROM escaping jewish community from iberia , christian arminian , algerian , palestinian and they are all melted within the community a famous saying about syria (everybody has two homelands the original and syria)

  • Perhaps because he's an open minded individual who forms his own opinion instead of lapping up lies from the media

  • Only 5 days to go

Can't wait to check out Damascus!

  • Syria is an examplary and an idol of relegious tolerance (mosques & churches & other temples))

we r syrian muslims - christians and jewish who live peacefully side by side in a liberal community

anyone can does what he likes and prays the way he wants the times he/she wants
