This clip is taken from the sermon "Jesus' Birth," preached by Pastor Mark Driscoll at the Mars Hill Church Ballard campus in Seattle, Washington, on November 01, 2009. It is the 7th sermon in our sermon series, "Luke's Gospel: Investigating the Man Who Is God."

I am not a detractor of the virgin birth. I fully and completely believe in the virginity of Mary.
However... Claiming that Isiah foretold the virgin birth of Christ, ad that this prophecy is essential for Christ to be who He is, is an error.
Isiah did not write anything about the virginity of the mother of Christ. Any Hebrew scholar will tell you that. The first time we see the word "virgin" used is in the Greek Septuagint (never the Hebrew writings).
We can't grow in truth by error!

I listen to this and keep seeing just how simplistic Mark is in his thinking.... without giving his own parishnors the full story. However, this is simply reflective of his religion - Evangelicalism.

Fair question. The concept of a personal incarnation is a concept that was created ultimately by a flawed understanding of who Jesus is. The fact is that Mark is in error here and simply propagating pre-medieval traditions of fleshly albeit religious men who had little Bible education and lots of traditions.
The only concept is the enfleshment of the Logos - that is the intangible concept of the Word of God was manifest in Jesus Christ - which is, in itself, a very cool picture.

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

If there is no such thing as sin, than how do you explain the conscience that God gave us, signaling what's right and wrong?

No such thing as Sin, Adam&Eve never existed. Virgin birth is only in 2 of the Gospels.

What's the argument that people give on the other side of this issue? What do they say to back up their belief that the incarnation is a secondary issue.
I'm not being a smart-arse, I actually want to know so I can know both sides of the story.
