Last day of school in 3rd grade we could bring in records to play. One of the black kids brought the album in (maybe soundtrack to Superfly?) and we listened to a whole album side. I was blown away. Loved it then. Seemed like within weeks I started hearing the songs on the radio. Now I play along to the studio version on my drum kit and love the music more than ever. Thought this was a good performance. Thanks for posting. RIP Curtis.

@MissJackieM You are right Miss Jackie it is sad! Young people today swoon over the likes of Trey Songz; Chris Brown; Ne-Yo; etc. When those guys burp, you can smell the Similac on their breath. They don't know what true showmanship or singing is because their stage acts are nothing but a bunch of pyrotechnic tricks and theatrics. Ask them to stand there with a band and groove, they can't do it.

I first heard this song at 7 years old. i asked my dad if it was about a man who had a bad life and died of an overdose. He became emotional and said he was both proud and a little frightened that i understoood the song so well.
