Nice video, altough of course you can never make generalizations about "the germans"

people in cologne are much more friendly than in berlin for example ( making a generalization here myself..)

@fritte I know. i feel bad sometimes about the over generalizations, but for tourists that are just traveling through for a week or two sometimes the generalizations do fit, but for those who stay longer they will see the loves like how great the people are once they really get into the culture. thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm moving to Germany soon and totally nervous, but would you say having a good grasp on the language is pretty essential for getting around? esp for long term stay right?

@wensibelle Yes, you should know German if you want to truly intigrate into the culture. However, young (and even many older) Germans speak English very well and you will not have any problems with the language issue. It is more of a nice thign to do when you are moving someplace to learn the langauge. it shows you really want to be there, and even if you speak really badly ;) it will be appreciated that you tried. so do not worry. you will have a great time!

ive been living near freiburg in the black forest for 11 years( from the usa) and the people are more free to do as they wish than in the USA. the cops don't chase skateboarders. kids go into supermarkets with inline skates, and no one says anything. the germans keep their cool and do avoid confronting antagonistic people. they make great wine in our area, too. very impressive wine and food culture in "little tuscany" called by the germans. and it's not only riesling. peace!
