  • So if all the governments of the world dissolved overnight, the former Palestinians will look at the former Israelis and say "Well, I guess we don't have to hate jews anymore, the free market has saved us!" There better be some strong magic to make that happen.

  • The Isreali government is what is enabling the Jews to fuck over the Palestinians. If it was destroyed the conflict would greatly subside.

  • Whats the tattoo on your left arm?

  • It is a bloody crown with a banner that reads "Sic Semper Tyrannis"

  • What a disturbing clustering/association of terms. I lambasted Lee Doren for obscenely saying things like "conservative slash libertarian" as if they were somehow related or similar. Blah! Ick! Poo!

  • I see you made a response as well.

  • @baggytheo Well, that's the problem with this whole ancap thing in the first place. They don't have a strategy to achieve immediate goals. Not a winning one anyway. At least the communists and fascists had plans to mobilize. I do like countereconomics. I think it's a great idea but there needs to be more. Just avoid charismatic leaders and central committees if you don't want to go the way they did.

  • @atypicalguy I don't think anyone really believes that. Do you? Seems like a pretty obvious straw-man. People who have this view are not expecting everything to change overnight. It will probably take centuries.

  • Actually, there are two types of libertarians. Minarchists and Anarchists. Both believe in radically less government, but calling all libertarians anarchists is a misrepresentation and quite frankly dishonest.

  • the first time i heard a libertarian argue a point about life liberty and property i knew then and there that libertarianism was the best and more "moral" way in which people could live together peacefully and freely. Why the fuck is it so hard for people to see this?

had to put moral in quotes, because I am really starting to think that hard determinism is true.

  • @DaveDoggOwns

Even as I wrote my response, I was afraid that this would be your response. Our problem here is that we both have two different and irreconcilable worldviews :-/

  • @Thesterness And every libertarian knows that not very many people want to live a libertarian society. That's the whole point of discussing this stuff. To convince people. Or atleast convince ourselves.

What is "inhumane" to one man is "humane" to another. And there is no arguement in saying something is "inhumane". It's just a complete emotional appeal and assertion. What I say is EVERY possible human societal model is "humane". There are all human right?

  • @DaveDoggOwns

If a society and everything in it are based solely on the principle of profit and loss, and if everything is only viewed as a want or desire, I doubt that very many people would want to live in such a society. If it is only viewed as being "desirable" for a fireman to rescue a child from a burning building, rather than "necessary", that is inhuman. If it is considered acceptable to deny somebody medical care because treating them would not be profitable, that is inhuman.

  • @Thesterness And are you aware that most fire protection agencies aren't owned by the state?

  • @Thesterness The difference is THIS fire department has a privilieged position in the marketplace and isn't subject to factors of profit/loss.

Fire protection can be denied, so it isn't clear why this good should be subject to different economic rules.

And there is no such thing as a "need". There are only wants and desires.

  • @Thesterness

Note: for clarity, by the voluntary contractual relationship, I am referring specifically to those living outside the city who paid the extra fee to contract their fire services out to the city (as that particular homeowner did), as opposed to those who live in the city and pay for it indirectly through taxes.
