There only use to be 2 sizes. Short(small) and tall(large). So the tall use to be the largest. But then we need bigger sizes, so came ago grande making that the largest.. Then another size up... Venti meaning 20. Which the venti(now the large) is 20oz. It makes since, but people who don't know Starbucks history and are fiirst timers get confused. But you can always say small, medium, and large and the barista will understand you.

I hate when they have to correct you. It's not like they don't know what you mean.

Starbucks language is absurd. In Zürich (Switzerland) I recently ordered "einen großen Kaffee, bitte". They served a "venti". I objected and told them that the italian word "grande" in german means "groß". They replied: "Yeah, but this is an american chain." So what? Don't americans now the meaning of the words they use? Oh well, I guess they don't.
