Matt Simmons at the ASPO USA conference on advice for preparing for peak oil. Simmons answers the following questions:

What should Michigan be doing to prepare for peak oil?

What would be your number one recommendation be for the the auto industry in Michigan?

What would you recommend Michigan do as far as energy, electricity in particular?

What should individuals be doing to prepare for peak oil?

Matt Simmons is the author of the peak oil book "Twilight in the Dessert".

The questions for Michigan are to help Michigan to prepare for peak oil and for help in structuring the Conference on Michigan's Future: Energy, Economy, and Environment.

Note: The audio is disrupted due to a poor recording location near a door that opened to a construction side with a jack hammer. To all camera operators (and self) - pay attention to audio, and if there is a problem, fix it, or you'll be sorry later. Use an external mike, use a headset to monitor extraneous noise, and change location if necessary.

  • start to built alternative source infrastructure, now! While oil is relatively cheap. When it will be expensive then time will fall harder for unprepared one's.

  • Matt mentions wind power in and around the Great Lakes, but he didn't seem up on the latest work. YouTube won't let me type links in a comment, so google for: Bradley, David (2004-02-06). "A Great Potential: The Great Lakes as a Regional Renewable Energy Source". Basically the Great Lakes have enough wind to power 80% of the U.S. and Canada. Thanks for your efforts to post these videos.

  • Hi Newculture,

thankyou for putting up this video as I'm always a fan of Matt Simmons logic and un-erring honesty. I was curious to know if you've Googled:-

    "Chris Martenson"

    "Crash Course"

...its a set of award winning videos on the subject of 'Energy', 'Economy' and 'Environment. They hit home beautifully, mirroring much of Matts thoughts as a useful tool in explaining the imminent future, step by step...
