The idea of foil fencing is 'defence' and there is a right of way. If you are attacked you must first parry your opponent's sword before you can attack. You have only the vest as target, however the flip of the sword can strike your opponent's back if you are quick. The tip of the sword is what scores so a flat hit is off target. There's a fine line between who is attacking, your arm must be extended and you must be in a forward movement unless you reposte. Foil fencing is an art,

It's actually quite a boring and impractical sport to the outside viewer, not to say that people who DO it don't enjoy it, but that's like calling PC gaming art and that it's a fine skill toned sport just because you yourself enjoy it. I sniff ego powder.
