I think parades are a vital social function to celebrate the shared bonds of the community. Parades also tend to increase business which stimulates the local economy. By the way, this town looks like a lovely place to live.

The parade is also in the middle of the fair weekend. The rodeo dominates the fair.
So, the town is very much connected to farming, and it shows in the parade. You know, I've never given it much thought. It's just always been that way. I have a photo of myself as a toddler, with my siblings, at fair time, and we're all decked out in cowboy outfits. But, you don't normally see people walking around here in cowboy hats. There's no spurs on their boots. It's not like Texas in that sense.
I and my ex J fontaine got out of there at the same time but I keep going back to visit, nice town, great people.

2008 was the best parade? This was the 2008 parade, not 2009.
I have my pics ready for the 2009 parade slideshow I'm gonna do, I took over 300, but I'm a huge procrastinator. Hopefully, I will get it up before the end of Sept.
Plus, I'm in the midst of making a "prequel" to the 2009 parade.....it's an animation of 2 employees in the Selkirk town offices discussing the parade, Mayor Bell, and other local matters. Hopefully that will be done before the end of Sept as well.

Selkirk is not that bad. I "got out" and when I did I missed it terribly. Take it for what it is - it's a small Canadian Prairie town, like hundreds of other small towns on the Canadian Prairies. They're not New York, or Toronto, but they don't claim to be. Each town has its own charm.
