  • @BioRage1920 GM USES TOO MUCH LAND!! Gm requires both refuges and buffer zones and organic does not. The UN report says GM yields are sometimes higher and sometimes lower. GM uses more space than conventional with the same yields and organic can yield higher than conventional. Farming Systems Trial at Rodale Institute. In 1999 during one of the worst droughts on record, yields of organic soybeans were 30 bushels/acre compared to only 16 bushels/acre from conventionally grown soybeans.

  • @BioRage1920 UNEP-UNCTAD report "Organic Agriculture and Food Security in Africa ", the study demonstrates that organic agriculture can be equal or better for food security than most conventional systems and is more likely to be sustainable in the longer term, as it builds up levels of natural, human, social, financial and physical capital in farming communities. It also favours the use of low carbon footprint production methods and local resources.

  • @BioRage1920 Synthetic pesticides are NOT generally safer. Half of both natural and synthetic pesticides are carcinogens and there is an equally long list of health problems for both. However, organic food generally has significantly less pesticide residue because organic uses less pesticides(and in most cases no pesticides) and more biological pest control like crop rotation, crop cover, predatory insects etc. than conventional.

  • @BioRage1920 International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition study review of organic vs conventional diet in animals. Weight gain was greater in organically fed rats,mortality was lower at 9 weeks,incidence of degenerative diseases was lower. Lower mortality in organically fed rabbits. 2nd and 3rd generation rabbits from organically fed parents exhibited higher birth rates and more viable embryos. Infectious illnesses were less frequent in 2nd generation organically fed animals.
