@levmyshkin Thanks for the reply! I'd been afraid that this was because of a misguided effort to make into the more "modern" format. In fact, widescreen wasn't that widespread in Russia until the 1990s. Widescreen was a Hollywood invention meant to prevent people just watching movies on TV instead of in the cinema. It was also used in the Soviet Union, but many artists didn't see the need for it. It's good for showing panoramas and not as good for showing humans.

@Niffiwan I thought that the animations had originally been filmed on 35mm at 1.85:1 and converted to 1.33:1 for television broadcast - I thought that by converting to 16:9 I was restoring the originally intended look. That's not the case, unfortunately. This is a personal project that I do in my free time, so as I have a chance I will be going back and re-uploading all the films here in 4:3.

Mr. Meeks, why would you "format to HD" by squishing the original image? The video should be 1.33:1. This is a disservice to the film.

Brilliant marriage metaphor! So charming and pure in the beginning - so nasty nad miserable at the end!

So he says to his wife, "come on, kiss me!" and she says, "I'm a frayed knot!"
