  • how can you compare Phish and Umphrey's? The majority of UMph music is COMPOSED - Really, the only time they jam are the "Jimmy Stewarts" on their setlists...and the segueways to the next song. Phish is far more "jam" oriented, but certainly have their fair share of compositions. It's just lame to compare the two...good music is all about the love!

The Partyin' Peeps will do it!

  • I can honestly say you haven't paid enough attention to Joel then. ;)

  • @ninjajo11 did you just say that trey doesn't shred like these guys? umphreys is AWESOME, but that statement is just stupid

  • no dislikes hell yeah

  • @theplaidseahorse I agree with you that comparing is lame, but you haven't heard enough Umphrey's live if you don't think they jam because they do, Phish just does it more often.

  • About this whole umphreys phish thing. Well, theres nothing wrong with comparing. They do have some similarities. I dont think its fair to say one band is better than the other though. both bands are amazing

  • @nostabssor - Don't get me wrong, I prefer Trey's solo stuff and Phish along with the Cheese more than any others. Trey is awesome but doesn't shred like these guys.

  • @ninjajo11 fucking retarded trey is a jedi and will play circles around them enjoy both for the good vibes but phish is the original

  • @theplaidseahorse You kinda have to compare the two, considering UM have "borrowed" upon Phish's entire live show... from the lights to the tones of their instruments, and their playful interaction with the audience. Not putting them down, just sayin'... you can't help but think of Phish when you see them (and listen for the "Rift" riff starting at 4:20)... quite Phishy, all day! Love these guys, though! :)

  • I love Phish as well, but you are right, UM is definately more refined. You have to put Cinninger and Blayliss up there with Jimmy Herring on the Jam genre. Trey is a great song writer but isn't in these guys league.
