i dont think it is about god not existing. I think the song is about human importance. We think we are the most important life forms on earth, and thats not true in the eyes of the lord. eventhough, humans build temples. He says it doesnt matter. we cross deserts, to find him. But all the other animals, seem to have found him on the spot where they are. So, obvious we are doing way worse then everyother lifeform, humans dont understand life. but still weput our faith in him thats why he loves us

I interpreted it more sadistically. God commits a multitude of questionable atrocities in the Bible and yet humanity is still written to worship and blindly follow this misleading entity. The line, and thats why God loves mankind reminds me of how someone would laugh and love a fool the amusement entertained from the total stupidity in loving and following a tyrant unquestionably.
