Great Dane service dog in training, Talos, has bolted out the gate in the past. In this video, you'll see Talos learning how to wait at the gate for a release cue before he heads out.
Similar situation at the front door. We now have our Flattie on leash at the door. Sit-wait I go through the door, call her to "heel"-sit. I'm with you about waiting. It's certainly not a so-called "Alpha"-thing, it has to do with safety. We can now apply this to any "portal" such as gates, garage doors, office buildings, shopping centers etc. Great video, techniques and beautigul little doggie!
He is GORGEOUS! And what a calm good boy :)
